Formula 1 manufacturer rankings: No. 5 – Red Bull

Following the highly contentious addition of a brand-new title to the Red Bull trophy case, Max Verstappen and Christian Horner may have a sharp end to their honeymoon with their 2022 car.

Despite comments about the “success of their development”, there are still reasonable doubts to be had about the actual success of development and how much it has been hampered by the 2021 title fight.

Red Bull, alongside developing an entirely new aerodynamic concept for their 2022 machinery, will also be instituting “Red Bull Powertrains” as a continuation of the championship-winning Honda power unit. This likely means little to no gain in the power unit, which was already proven to be inferior to Mercedes and could very well be overtaken by Ferrari and even Renault.

Along with a failed crash test sending the development team back to the drawing board, Red Bull look set for an even tougher test than 2021 just to remain within the top half of the grid.

The one factor which cannot be measured, however, is the genius of Adrian Newey and the potential to make up for lost time and money in the 2022 aerodynamic package.
