Formula 1 manufacturer rankings: No. 3 – Alpine

Yes, Alpine are really placed as the third best manufacturer entering the 2022 season.

After years of rekindling a winning Formula 1 program under the Renault name, Alpine have the foundations both through tangible and fiscal capital to keep pace with the most powerful manufacturers in Formula 1.

This is the case in part due to the French government’s 15% stake in Groupe Renault, providing crucial funds for the new era of regulations. Alpine might as well undergo a second consecutive rebranding to the “French National Formula 1 Team”.

With this funding comes not only high amounts of capital but also high amounts of pressure. One of the areas which was receiving the most pressure was an underperforming Renault power unit, which only remains within the French outfit’s machinery.

But this looks to be potentially solved by the late adoption of a split-turbocharger concept first introduced by Mercedes and later adopted by Honda. This will leave Ferrari as the sole power unit manufacturer on the grid without said technology.

Alongside reports following the new year of improved power output, Alpine could finally be on level-pegging with the powerhouses of Formula 1 when it comes to their power unit. Combined with all of the tools to put together a successful aero concept on the 2022 equipment, the Formula 1 grid could be set to welcome the return of a French title contender.
