Ahead of the 2022 IndyCar season opener on the streets of St. Petersburg, the full championship odds for the 17-race season have been revealed.

The 2022 IndyCar season is set to get underway this afternoon with the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg on the streets of St. Petersburg, Florida, the first of 17 races on this year’s schedule.

Leading up to this 100-lap race around the 14-turn, 1.8-mile (2.897-kilometer) temporary street circuit, WynnBET has revealed the full championship betting odds for the upcoming 2022 season, which is set to run until the series visits WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca for the Firestone Grand Prix of Monterey on Sunday, September 11.

Andretti Autosport’s Colton Herta, who had a fairly inconsistent year last year but finished in fifth place in the championship standings with three wins, tied for most in the series, is listed as the early favorite, but only slightly. He is listed at +425 ahead of Team Penske’s Josef Newgarden, a two-time series champion and last year’s runner-up, at +450.

Interestingly, reigning champion Alex Palou, who also won a series-high three races and actually would have won the title had all three of his wins been runner-up finishes, is ranked down in fourth at +700, just behind Arrow McLaren SP’s Pato O’Ward at +650 and just ahead of Chip Ganassi Racing teammate and six-time champion Scott Dixon at +750.

No driver has repeated as champion since Dario Franchitti won three titles in a row from 2009 to 2011. Interestingly, Franchitti pulled that off behind the wheel of the #10 Honda, which is what Palou drives.

Romain Grosjean, who is in his first full season in the series and his first season with Andretti Autosport, is listed sixth at +800. The next highest driver with zero career wins is Team Penske’s Scott McLaughlin, who is listed at +3000. McLaughlin is set to start the season opener from the pole position (full starting lineup here).
