Keep tabs on Saturday’s single-car qualifying session ahead of the 2022 IndyCar season’s second race at Texas Motor Speedway.

IndyCar is set for the first of five oval races on the 17-race 2022 schedule this Sunday afternoon at Texas Motor Speedway following last month’s season opener on the streets of St. Petersburg, Florida.

Tomorrow afternoon’s race, the XPEL 375, is scheduled to be a 248-lap race around the four-turn, 1.44-mile (2.317-kilometer) oval in Fort Worth, Texas.

Texas Motor Speedway hosted two races last year for the first time since 2011, but qualifying was rained out. One session was slated to set the starting lineup for both races, but both races ended up seeing their starting lineups set by the championship standings instead.

The last time the track hosted a qualifying session was in June 2020, when it hosted a very late season opener after all of the races on the schedule before it were either canceled or postponed due to COVID-19-related restrictions.

IndyCar uses a single-car format for oval qualifying. Each driver is set to make a two-lap qualifying run; the qualifying order is determined by the reverse order of entrant points. The driver with the fastest two-lap average speed takes the pole position, with the rest of the starting lineup based on the remaining speeds.
