Mercedes have announced that Eight Sleep has become their Official Team Supplier in a joint effort to support their preparations for an expansive 2022 Formula 1 schedule.
The 2022 Formula 1 season is set to consist of an all-time high 23 races, the first of which, the Bahrain Grand Prix, was run this past Sunday at Bahrain International Circuit. These 23 races are set to take place over the course of just eight months.
To prepare for the long and demanding road ahead, eight-time reigning world constructor champions Mercedes have welcomed Eight Sleep as their Official Team Supplier.
Eight Sleep, the world’s first sleep fitness company, has joined the Silver Arrows on a two-year deal that runs through the 2023 season.
The team’s drivers, Lewis Hamilton (10th season with the team, 16th overall) and George Russell (first season with the team, fourth overall) will have access to Eight Sleep’s suite of products to optimize their sleep and ensure peak performance throughout the next two seasons, as will team principal and CEO Toto Wolff.
Hamilton is seeking world championship number eight this year after narrowly missing out in 2021, while Russell is aiming to stand atop the podium for the first time in his Formula 1 career this year.
Here is what team principal and CEO Toto Wolff had to say about the partnership.
"“Our team is made up of over 2,000 people across Brackley and Brixworth, all of whom perform at their peak every day in a sport where every single detail matters. To achieve the level of sustained performance that is required to compete in Formula 1, we are relentless in exploring all possible optimizations, including sleep. By partnering with Eight Sleep we are looking to utilize their technology during the upcoming season while also spreading a key message about the importance of recovery when you aim for peak performance.”"
Here is what team commercial director Richard Sanders had to add.
"“We’re delighted to welcome Eight Sleep to the team and to start working with them to develop and innovate around our sleep and recovery programmes. Eight Sleep’s approach to reimagining sleep is very similar to how we operate. They’re obsessed with performance, the fine details and ensuring our team gets the rest they need to perform at their very best.”"
And finally, here is what Eight Sleep co-founder and CEO Matteo Franceschetti had to say.
"“Eight Sleep, and myself personally, are thrilled to partner with Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One and power their team’s sleep so they can continue to perform at the highest level. Growing up in Italy, Formula One was a huge part of my life – from racing cars with my father to starting my first business taking pictures of racing cars at local tracks. Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1’s commitment to constant innovation and improvement is what we strive for at Eight Sleep. We will work together to improve the team’s sleep and recovery for a successful win at this year’s Grand Prix races.”"
More than 200 professional athletes rely on the brand to power their recovery through the Pod Pro’s advanced thermoregulation and sleep technology.
Eight Sleep’s branding is set to be featured on the team’s car for the inaugural Miami Grand Prix at Miami International Autodrome in Miami Gardens, Florida (Friday, May 6 to Sunday, May 8), and their logo will be featured on all the car covers throughout the year.
