Possible Kyle Busch replacements: No. 3 – Bubba Wallace

Bubba Wallace was recently confirmed as the driver of the “star car” for two road course races, including this Saturday’s race at Circuit of the Americas and the July race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course.

But could we see even more races added to his Xfinity Series slate?

Wallace was long considered one of the most likely options to get time behind the wheel of this car this year. Last year, amid his first season at the brand-new Denny Hamlin and Michael Jordan-owned 23XI Racing, he returned to the Xfinity Series for the first time since 2017 and ran one race for Hattori Racing Enterprises.

With 23XI Racing being affiliated with Joe Gibbs Racing and with Joe Gibbs Racing having an amazing opportunity for Wallace to get more track time in the “star car”,  it only made sense for him to be confirmed for a number of races in 2022; all parties involved stand to benefit.

Could that number be more than two?

Interestingly, of the 12 races for which they “star car” does not yet have a confirmed driver, four are road course races.

The race at Portland International Raceway is probably out of the equation with the Cup Series racing at World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway the next day, and the race at the Charlotte Motor Speedway Roval is out of the equation due to the fact that it is a playoff race.

But what about the races at Road America and Watkins Glen International? And what about an oval race here and there? Don’t close the door just yet.

And what about one more dark horse option?
