IndyCar: 2022 Long Beach qualifying – Full starting lineup
By Asher Fair
The starting lineup for the third race of the 2022 IndyCar season on the streets of Long Beach is set following Saturday’s qualifying session.
Following another three-week break, IndyCar is scheduled to get back into action tomorrow afternoon with the 17-race 2022 season’s third race, the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach.
Andretti Autosport’s Colton Herta took the pole position for this 85-lap race around the 11-turn, 1.968-mile (3.167-kilometer) temporary street circuit on the streets of Long Beach, California by recording a top lap time of 65.3095 seconds (108.480 miles per hour) behind the wheel of his #26 Honda in the Firestone Fast Six, the third and final round of the qualifying session.
This lap time was a new track record for the reigning race winner, who won last year’s race from a season-worst 14th place on the grid.
Herta beat Team Penske’s Josef Newgarden to the pole position by a considerable margin of 0.4455 seconds (0.735 miles per hour). Newgarden, who won the most recent race at Texas Motor Speedway, is set to start alongside Herta on the front row in second place behind the wheel of his #2 Chevrolet.
