Playoff drivers who could be in trouble: No. 2 – Tyler Reddick

Richard Childress Racing’s Tyler Reddick has appeared to be on the verge of his first NASCAR Cup Series victory for quite some time now, and that has been the case multiple times in the 2022 season.

Yet he is still seeking it, and in the meantime, he needs to make sure he is positioned well enough on points to qualify for the playoffs whether he wins or not.

Unfortunately, he still has a lot of work to do. Despite sitting in 14th place in the point standings, he is currently the second driver below the cut line, and he sits 42 points behind it. This is the case because so many drivers from below that cut line have won already to vault themselves into the 16-driver playoff picture.

And unfortunately for the driver of the #8 Chevrolet, it likely won’t get any easier with 10 more opportunities for new winners to emerge. To put things in perspective, last season, he was the 16th and final driver to qualify for the playoffs, and he did so with an 11th place finish in the regular season point standings.

Even with 10 regular season races remaining, the playoff cut line is already between the 11th and 12th place drivers.

Reddick’s best bet would be to win. He just can’t seem to be able to do that quite yet, no matter how close he gets.
