Rinus VeeKay 2023 landing spots: No. 3 – Meyer Shank Racing

One other landing spot that has been discussed as a possibility for Rinus VeeKay in 2023 is Meyer Shank Racing, which currently run two cars for Helio Castroneves and Simon Pagenaud.

Pagenaud has had a solid first season with his new team after leaving Team Penske and should be back for another year behind the wheel of the #60 Honda, but Castroneves has struggled in his first full year behind the wheel of the #06 Honda.

Castroneves made his first start with Meyer Shank Racing in last year’s Indy 500, which was their first ever IndyCar race with two cars. After 11 unsuccessful attempts to become a four-time winner with Team Penske from 2010 to 2020, he finally became the race’s fourth ever four-time winner after switching teams.

But the 46-year-old Brazilian has struggled outside the four corners of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway oval. Aside from his two Indy 500 starts, which saw him win and finish in seventh place, he has finished higher than 14th just three times in 17 starts with Meyer Shank Racing. Those three results were finishes of either eighth or ninth.

Is he better off in an Indy 500-only/part-time role? It certainly worked out last year.

However, a move to Meyer Shank Racing would probably be a lateral move, at best, for VeeKay, and Castroneves is believed to be in talks about a second full season with the organization.
