Possible Daniel Ricciardo 2023 landing spots: No. 2 – Haas

Mick Schumacher has been seen as being on the hot seat throughout much of the 2022 Formula 1 season after Kevin Magnussen was brought in as Nikita Mazepin’s replacement just days before the start of the season and immediately outperformed the 23-year-old German.

Schumacher was able to quiet this talk during the early summer stretch of races, specifically with an eighth place finish at Silverstone, netting him his first career points, a ninth place finish in the Austria sprint race, and a sixth place finish in the race itself. He also qualified in an impressive sixth in Montreal.

However, Schuamcher remains without a contract for the 2023 season, and things don’t exactly look promising in terms of an extension with Haas.

Schumacher had leverage in the form of an Aston Martin seat when Sebastian Vettel announced his retirement and went on to back his fellow German for the seat, but Fernando Alonso’s signing was announced shortly thereafter. With that leverage gone, Haas have reportedly suspended contract talks.

There is also the belief that Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto no longer believes in Schumacher’s potential, which could lead to his departure from the Ferrari development program altogether. Even still, Haas have insisted that they are not necessarily obligated to wait for Ferrari when it comes to their second seat.

Naturally, signing Daniel Ricciardo would have nothing to do with Ferrari. Should they come calling, Ricciardo would be wise to listen, given the improvement that they have shown to start this new era of rules and regulations.
