Possible Daniel Ricciardo 2023 landing spots: No. 4 – Williams

Earlier this summer, it was rumored that Oscar Piastri was set to join Williams as Nicholas Latifi’s replacement for the 2023 Formula 1 season, a move that would see Alpine loan him out for at least a year as they retained Fernando Alonso’s services.

But as we now know, Alonso is off to Aston Martin, and chaos has since ensued.

Alonso’s replacement hasn’t yet been announced, as Piastri is in line not to replace him, but Daniel Ricciardo at McLaren isntead.

Williams could opt to retain Latifi, a scenario that seemed practically unthinkable a few months ago, or they could bring in somebody new, such as Nyck de Vries, who has been linked to the team in the past, or Logan Sargeant, who has had an impressive run in Formula 2 as of late.

With Alexander Albon having signed a multi-year contract extension amid the silly season chaos, the Grove-based team can afford to get creative with their second seat. Could it be fellow former Red Bull driver Ricciardo joining him?

It would be quite ironic if Ricciardo ends up in the seat that his own replacement was originally slated to land. But would the eight-time race winner really want to place himself in Formula 1’s slowest car just to be able to say that he still competes in the sport?
