Possible Daniel Ricciardo 2023 landing spots: No. 5 – AlphaTauri

Signing Daniel Ricciardo wouldn’t exactly fit AlphaTauri’s goal in terms of being a Red Bull development team, but with very few, if any, Formula 1-ready Red Bull junior drivers, perhaps a move back to one of the 33-year-old Australian’s former organizations could be exactly what he needs to experience a career resurgence.

Even if we assume that Pierre Gasly’s contract with the team is indeed watertight and he can’t get out of it and take the vacant Alpine seat in 2023, AlphaTauri still have a seat to fill next year.

Yuki Tsunoda is currently in his second season with the team, but he does not have a contract to return next year. Are they willing to give him a third season, or do the “problem child” remarks made by Red Bull development head Helmut Marko mean the end is near?

AlphaTauri have reportedly contacted Ricciardo about the open seat, so it’s apparently something that is, at the very least, on their radar.

Additionally, a move to AlphaTauri could give Ricciardo an off chance to end up back in a competitive car at Red Bull before his career ends.

Sergio Perez is under contract through 2024, but as referenced above, there doesn’t seem to be a clear replacement candidate among young drivers at the moment, save for maybe Gasly if he is still part of the organization in 2025.
