Possible Daniel Ricciardo 2023 landing spots: Dark horse – Trackhouse

There is nothing that says Daniel Ricciardo needs to remain in Formula 1 next year. In fact, even if there was (and considering his McLaren contract, there technically was), it wouldn’t matter, given how teams and contracts (and more specifically, McLaren) seem to operate these days.

Would a switch to the NASCAR Cup Series be under consideration?

Ricciardo has admitted to having interest in NASCAR in the past, and he recently had the chance to test drive one of Dale Earnhardt’s old cars.

A recent move by Trackhouse Racing Team could present him with the perfect opportunity to compete in an actual race.

The Justin Marks and Pitbull-owned team recently announced the addition of a third entry, the #91 Chevrolet, that is designed to bring drivers from various international racing series to NASCAR for select races.

In fact, the first driver set to compete in the car is Formula 1 world champion Kimi Raikkonen, who is set to do so in the upcoming race at Watkins Glen International.

There are two things to address here: yes, Ricciardo has admitted that he isn’t a huge fan of ovals, but this is more on the IndyCar side as it pertains to any potential interest of driving at 230+ miles per hour in an open-wheel car.

Even if that same hesitance carried over to NASCAR, he wouldn’t necessarily have to compete in an oval race, considering the fact that there are several road course races on the Cup Series schedule nowadays. Just look at Raikkonen.

Trackhouse Racing Team is no backmarker team, either. Both of their full-time drivers, Ross Chastain and Daniel Suarez, won a road course race earlier this season. In fact, both earned their first career victories in those races.

If Ricciardo wants to win again, this is his by far his best shot.
