Drivers who could retaliate against Ross Chastain: No. 2 – Christopher Bell

At Michigan International Speedway in August, Ross Chastain was in position to take the lead with just over 40 laps to go.

He took his #1 Chevrolet to the outside of Christopher Bell’s #20 Toyota to make a pass, but it ended up with Bell’s right front fender getting ripped off when he spun off the nose of Chastain’s car and hit the outside wall. The two drivers who were fighting for a potential win ended their days outside of the top 20.

Luckily for Chastain, Bell isn’t a driver who has a history of retaliation after being run into. Bell even said after the Michigan race that he “made a mistake on being clear vs. not being clear”, indicating that some fault, he felt, was on him.

But he also mentioned that Chastain had the option to get off the gas and back down, which didn’t happen. If Bell breaks from his norm and does retaliate, it would most likely be in the form of racing Chastain harder on track as opposed to wrecking him, as dumping drivers has never proven to be something that Bell does.

However, if there’s a win on the line, Bell may feel that, given what happened in Michigan, it might be more acceptable to rough Chastain up a little.
