NASCAR drivers who could play spoiler: No. 4 – Michael McDowell

Michael McDowell has quietly been putting together some solid runs. The driver of the #34 Front Row Motorsports Ford has four top 10 finishes in the last seven races, including a sixth place finish in the playoff opener at Darlington Raceway.

His 11 top 10 finishes are the most of any non-playoff driver, with the exception of Martin Truex Jr., and he led 14 laps in the recent race at Watkins Glen International.

McDowell has had lots of success at road courses and superspeedways before. His lone Cup Series win came at Daytona International Speedway in last year’s Daytona 500, while his lone Xfinity Series victory came at Road America in 2016.

He has three top 10 finishes in the last six races at Talladega Superspeedway, including an eighth place finish earlier this season. While he has not finished in the top 10 in four starts at the Charlotte Motor Speedway Roval, both that event and the race at Talladega Superspeedway are ones to watch in particular.

He did just record his best result at Darlington Raceway as well, which could make him one to watch at a few other venues as well.

Bob Jenkins’ Front Row Motorsports team have produced a few upsets over the years and a playoff spoiler would be another one to check off the list.
