NASCAR drivers who could play spoiler: No. 5 – Chris Buescher

While the big news over last offseason for Roush Fenway Racing was the addition of Brad Keselowski in both a driver and owner capacity, with the team being renamed RFK (Roush Fenway Keselowski) Racing upon his arrival, it has been Chris Buescher who has managed to put together the better opening season under the new branding.

Buescher has had better results than the 2012 champion, with more top five finishes, more top 10 finishes, and a better average finish, setting him up to perhaps beat Keselowski to the role of playoff spoiler.

The driver of the #17 Ford had three top 10 finishes in four races entering the regular season finale, where he wrecked at Daytona International Speedway. That stretch was highlighted by a third place finish at Richmond Raceway, and he posted strong results in the last two regular season road course races.

Overall, Buescher has recorded four top 10 finishes in five road course races this season, including a season-best runner-up finish at Sonoma Raceway, plus three top 10 finishes on speedways that are between one and two miles in length. Buescher could be the longshot of the five aforementioned drivers, but don’t count him out from a trip to victory lane.
