Teams Kyle Busch won’t drive for: No. 3 – Trackhouse Racing Team

Trackhouse Racing Team have a third car for which nobody has been announced for the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series season. So why isn’t Kyle Busch even in the discussion to drive it?

This car is the #91 Chevrolet, and it was recently introduced as a part of what the team call PROJECT91, a way to provide international motorsports stars an opportunity to compete in Cup Series races.

2007 Formula 1 world champion Kimi Raikkonen debuted the car last month at Watkins Glen International, but there is no plan for it to return before the end of the 2022 season.

Additionally, the team do not have a charter for the car. It is expected to be only a part-time entry throughout the 2023 season, even though the plan is for it to compete in far more than just one race on the schedule.

As for the team’s full-time entries, Ross Chastain is set to return for a second year behind the wheel of the #1 Chevrolet, and Daniel Suarez recently signed a contract extension to return for a third year behind the wheel of the #99 Chevrolet.

While the team could technically abandon the idea of PROJECT91 to sign Busch, it would have been easier just to replace Suarez, who didn’t have a contract for 2023 until recently, and put the two-time champion in a chartered entry. That obviously didn’t happen, and PROJECT91 is here to stay.
