NASCAR teams without plans announced: No. 5 – Rick Ware Racing

Rick Ware Racing downsized from four cars to two following the 2021 NASCAR Cup Series season, and it remains to be seen what they will look like in 2023.

They still control two charters to run the #15 Ford and the #51 Ford full-time, though only the latter is driven by a full-time driver. While the #15 Ford has been spilt between a number of competitors this year, the #51 Ford has been driven strictly by team owner Rick Ware’s son Cody.

It is expected that the team will continue to field the #51 Ford for the younger Ware, and if the #15 Ford also returns, it is expected that they will continue to give multiple drivers time behind the wheel. However, none of this is confirmed for 2023.

What is interesting to note here is that Rick Ware Racing could be at risk of losing both their charters in the near future as a result of NASCAR’s performance standard for charter teams, as mentioned on the previous two slides.

Interestingly, it is the #15 team, the team with multiple drivers, currently sitting in 34th place in the standings, while it is Cody Ware’s #51 team sitting down in 35th, and with little chance of moving up two spots following a recent hefty penalty.
