Possible Tyler Reddick replacements: No. 5 – Nobody/Kyle Busch

One question that has been asked regarding the news that Kyle Busch is set to join Richard Childress Racing next year pertains to whether or not Richard Childress Racing really have plans to become a three-car team in the long run.

With Tyler Reddick set to leave the team for 23XI Racing following the 2023 season anyway, is there really a need to secure a charter just for one year?

The team did say that they had secured a third charter for the 2023 season, but no other details were revealed, leading to the aforementioned suggestion that perhaps this was only a bluff in an attempt to force an early contract buyout.

As stated on the first slide, that appears to be exactly how things are trending. Would they simply continue running just two cars in 2023 if that takes place?

If they intend to run three charters in 2023 but not beyond that, however, then perhaps another team has leased them a charter for a single season to fulfill Reddick’s contract next year, thus avoiding potential legal problems.

In that case, their 2023 lineup would likely consist of only Busch and Austin Dillon, and Reddick wouldn’t be replaced upon his move to 23XI Racing.

And of course, if they never intended to run three charters in 2023 at all, then Reddick’s replacement is simply Busch — in the second car, with no third car needed.

But that is, of course, all still speculation.

Who will ultimately replace Tyler Reddick? Will it be one of these four drivers, or will Richard Childress Racing’s third entry be dropped after just one season? Will the third car perhaps never exist in a full-time capacity, meaning that Kyle Busch is straight-up replacing the current driver of the #8 Chevrolet in the team’s lineup next year, with no further changes?
