Possible Championship Race replacement: No. 1 – Homestead-Miami Speedway

Racing at 1.5-mile tracks was probably the style of racing that saw the most improvement with the switch to the Next Gen car, and given the success, it raises the question if NASCAR should look backward for the Championship 4 race.

Homestead-Miami Speedway, in particular, highlighted the ability to use the top lane of the track. Like at Phoenix Raceway, clean air seemed to help, but the ability to use the top lane for cars to play defense or offense created entertaining and strategic races that brought the best out of all three series.

Having hosted the championship weekend from 2002 to 2019, there is already familiarity with hosting the event, and the area has a strong racing presence. Formula 1 debuted the Miami Grand Prix in front of a massive crowd back in May.

With 1.5-mile track racing improving and the Miami area having a proven positive reception to racing, it’s hard to look away from Homestead-Miami Speedway as a potential replacement for Phoenix Raceway as the host of the Championship 4.

Next. One thing fans have stopped complaining about. dark

With the right promotion and information, NASCAR could use the championship race as a way to highlight the Next Gen car while also opening up the eyes of the casual viewer. The product, coupled with the location, would make it the right move.
