Possible Changes for NASCAR: No. 3 – Back to the ovals

Before this new generation of NASCAR, there were typically just a couple of road courses on the schedule. They were a rarity at the time, which gave them a special feel and excitement level that teams, drivers, and fans all appreciated.

Over the last few years, more and more non-oval events have been sprinkled into the calendar, but it may be too much now.

The Next Gen car has performed better on the non-ovals than the previous generation chassis, but there doesn’t seem to be a separation among the drivers. This has not produced the desired results though.

With so many drivers on equal footing, drivers are having to take silly risks in an effort to gain positions on the track. This has resulted in some ridiculous maneuvers, often making the series look like it’s full of amateurs, especially at the end of races.

The other drawback has been what these races have taken away. While it may have become stale, the Brickyard 400 doesn’t even exist any longer. This car would likely improve the racing around the famous 2.5-mile oval, but we may never know.
