Countries that could hold a NASCAR race: No. 3 – Canada

Canada, like Mexico, does have both a previous relationship with NASCAR and a current stock car series in the country. The Pinty’s Series has been running since 2007, continuing off the CASCAR Super Series from 1981.

Much like we saw with Daniel Suarez and the Mexico Series, there is an opportunity for success in a NASCAR national series among Pinty’s Series drivers.

2017 Pinty’s Series champion Alex Labbe currently competes in the Xfinity Series, and former Kyle Busch Motorsports driver Raphael Lessard is a winner in both the Pinty’s Series and the Truck Series. Needless to say, the talent exists outside of the three touring series, and it could transfer over well.

As far as the three touring series go, it wasn’t too long ago that NASCAR raced in Canada. The Truck Series raced at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park from 2013 to 2019.

But a different market with different drivers may be what the sport is looking for if Canada is indeed an option to be the next country to hold a NASCAR race.

O’Donnell noted that Toronto and Montreal are cities of interest, and while the Xfinity Series has competed at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve (2007 to 2012), he added that the Cup Series drivers have not.

Taking the Next Gen car to the streets of Toronto or Montreal would be another promotional move that could benefit all parties involved. With a rumored interest in conducting more street course races, the streets of Canada could be the perfect next landing spot.
