Possible Joe Gibbs Racing drivers: No. 3 – Ryan Truex

Ryan Truex, the brother of full-time Joe Gibbs Racing NASCAR Cup Series driver Martin Truex Jr., competed in five races behind the wheel of the team’s “star car” in the Xfinity Series during the 2022 season, and he recorded a top finish of third place in his final start at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

He also finished recorded finishes of sixth and seventh place behind the wheel of the No. 18 Toyota, and he also made another start for Sam Hunt Racing, the only other Toyota team that competed full-time throughout the season.

Since 2010, the 30-year-old Mayetta, New Jersey native has competed in races in at least one national series every year. He hasn’t competed full-time in the Xfinity Series since 2018, when he drove for Kaulig Racing in the Xfinity Series, but he has stayed busy since.

He competed part-time for the JR Motorsports Xfinity Series team in 2019 and then went to the Niece Motorsports Truck Series team, competing part-time in 2020 and full-time in 2021.

His only other full season came in 2017, when he drove for Hattori Racing Enterprises in the Truck Series and finished in ninth place in the championship standings.

Truex’s results haven’t been particularly impressive, with finishes of 12th and 16th place in the standings in his two most recent seasons as a full-time driver. However, he did a respectable job in his return to the Xfinity Series in 2022. Will it be enough to land him a bigger role?
