Daniel Suarez spoke about PROJECT91 and indicated that Justin Marks keeps Trackhouse Racing Team updated on possible drivers for the team’s third NASCAR Cup Series entry.

Daniel Suarez and Trackhouse Racing Team are set for their third NASCAR Cup Series season together in 2023 following the Justin Marks and Pitbull-owned team’s arrival at the sport’s top level in 2021, with Ross Chastain set to return for year number two after a surprising Championship 4 berth in year number one.

While Suarez (No. 99 Chevrolet) and Chastain (No. 1 Chevrolet) continue to be the team’s only two full-time drivers, Trackhouse Racing Team are expanding in 2023 with the addition of PROJECT91.

The PROJECT91 initiative, which was announced this past spring, is designed to give “renowned international racing drivers” the opportunity to compete in select races.

PROJECT91 officially debuted in 2022, but the No. 91 Chevrolet only appeared in one race. 2007 Formula 1 world champion Kimi Raikkonen drove the car at Watkins Glen International, marking his Cup Series debut.

Suarez doesn’t yet know who will drive the No. 91 Chevrolet in 2023, nor does he have the final say in who is considered.

But he made clear that Marks keeps everyone updated on possibilities.

“That’s Justin’s department but he keeps us updated,” Suarez told Beyond the Flag. “I think it is obvious, all of us were pretty excited about Kimi last year. That was a lot of fun.”

Marks, a former race car driver himself, has become one of the most likable and hands-on owners in the sport since forming and officially announcing the arrival of Trackhouse Racing Team in October 2020, especially in 2022.

While Pitbull may sometimes fly under the radar (as ironic as that might seem), Suarez is a huge fan of what he has brought to the table for the organization since officially becoming a co-owner in January 2021.

“I talk with Pitbull quite often,” he said. “He texts a lot as well. I had met him years ago but since he has joined Trackhouse we have communicated a good bit. He is such an impressive person. His energy, his intelligence, he cares about our race team and NASCAR.”
