Possible Indy 500 additions: No. 3 – A.J. Foyt Enterprises

Speaking of A.J. Foyt Enterprises, they are a prime candidate to expand for the Indy 500 once again. They have fielded three entries in each of the last three Indy 500s and could do so once more in 2023. In fact, they ran four entries in 2021, but Charlie Kimball failed to qualify his No. 11 Chevrolet.

They have two new full-time drivers in 2023, with Santino Ferrucci, who has four top 10 finishes in four Indy 500 starts, replacing the Andretti Autosport-bound Kyle Kirkwood behind the wheel of the iconic No. 14 Chevrolet and rookie Benjamin Pedersen replacing Dalton Kellett behind the wheel of the No. 4-turned-No. 88 Chevrolet.

Could Sage Karam follow former Dreyer & Reinbold Racing Indy 500 teammate Ferrucci to A.J. Foyt Enterprises in that third entry? Could J.R. Hildebrand be back for a third consecutive Indy 500 with the team after ending up as the team’s highest finishing driver in both 2021 and 2022?

Both drivers have been competitive at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on multiple occasions in years past, and both could serve as somewhat of a veteran presence in a young lineup that, for the second straight year, includes a rookie. Who else might make contact with the team about a potential third seat?
