Possible Daytona 500 additions: No. 3 – NY Racing Team

After trying to get back into the NASCAR Cup Series for several years, NY Racing Team, which hadn’t made a start since the 2018 Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway, finally made their return in 2022 when they fielded the No. 44 Chevrolet for Greg Biffle, who himself hadn’t competed in the Cup Series since 2016, in the Daytona 500.

Biffle’s successful attempt to qualify for the race, and subsequent 36th place finish, marked the team’s first appearance in the Great American Race since 2015.

In fact, the 2015 Daytona 500 had been the most recent appearance of the team’s No. 44 Chevrolet. It was entered into five other races on the 2015 schedule, but it didn’t qualify for any of them.

NY Racing Team fielded the entry for Biffle in four other races on the 2022 schedule, but all took place in the first one-third of the season; they haven’t competed since April. His best finish of the season was a 20th place effort at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

There were rumblings of the team potentially shutting down, but it is believed that they are still trying to put a deal together to return to this year’s running of the Great American Race. If they do, Biffle is expected to be the driver once again.
