NASCAR drivers Joe Gibbs Racing should sign: No. 2 – Corey Heim

Corey Heim was the primary driver of the No. 51 Toyota for Kyle Busch Motorsports during the 2022 NASCAR Truck Series season, and he capitalized on that opportunity, winning races at Atlanta Motor Speedway and World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway.

Despite Kyle Busch Motorsports’ switch to Chevrolet amid Kyle Busch’s move from Joe Gibbs Racing to Richard Childress Racing in the Cup Series, Heim remained with Toyota and therefore needed to find a new home.

The 20-year-old Marietta, Georgia native did exactly that, landing a full-time ride with TRICON Garage for the 2023 season. TRICON Garage, interestingly enough, just switched to Toyota from Ford. The organization had been known as David Gilliland Racing, and they had actually been aligned with Toyota before, only coming over to Ford in 2020.

Heim last had a full-time ride in the 2021 ARCA Menards Series season, when he finished second to the now Cup Series-bound Ty Gibbs in the championship standings with an impressive six-win season.

He has never made any starts in the Xfinity Series before, but he is clearly one of Toyota’s top prospects and should absolutely be considered for select races in Joe Gibbs Racing’s “star car” throughout the 2023 season.
