Formula 1 drivers who could lose their rides: No. 2 – Yuki Tsunoda

Yuki Tsunoda has a lot at stake this season, given the fact that his contract is set to expire when the year ends. There are more expectations set for the Japanese driver in 2023, now that he is in his third year in Formula 1 — and now that he is the lead driver for AlphaTauri.

Prior to the season, there was a general expectation that Nyck de Vries was truly looking to challenge the 22-year-old and lead the team by the end of the season. However, the Dutchman has struggled to open the season, being one of the two drivers on the grid yet to earn a point in 2023.

So far this season, Tsunoda has done rather well in the first four races of the season, finishing either 10th or 11th place each time. However, that may not be enough, due to the expectations set forth by Red Bull.

AlphaTauri currently sit in ninth place in the constructor standings. Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko has desires of AlphaTauri to finish at least top seven — specifically, fifth in an ideal situation.

While a good portion of the responsibility falls on Franz Tost, the final conclusion could end up being that Tsunoda is simply not good enough to lead this team forward.
