Formula 1 drivers who could lose their rides: No. 3 – Kevin Magnussen

This will definitely surprise many, considering the fact that Kevin Magnussen rejoined Haas right before the start of the 2022 Formula 1 season. However, being the team leader this season means that there are added expectations for the 30-year-old.

Magnussen’s contract also expires at the end of this season, meaning that he will have to prove to both Haas and Guenther Steiner that he is worth keeping around. He has not performed that well so far in 2023.

The general expectation is that he needs to perform better than Nico Hulkenberg, who has made a full-time return to Formula 1 this season. That has not been the case for Magnussen thus far.

Hulkenberg has done surprisingly well in bringing the pace out of the VF-23, as seen in numerous practice and qualifying sessions so far this season. On top of that, he also has six points this season, which is five more than Magnussen has.

Additionally, the Danish driver is on pace to finish well below where he finished last season, when he placed 13th in the standings with 25 points. His one point through four races is not what the team wanted, and Hulkenberg consistently impressing does not help Magnussen’s case.

While the thought of Haas not retaining Magnussen going further is not so popular, the reasoning behind why they might not retain him is also understandable.
