Possible new NASCAR Cup Series track: No. 2 – Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez

Track description: 2.674-mile road course

With NASCAR’s push to expand the reach of the sport across the globe, it comes as no surprise that NASCAR is very much considering the addition of international races to the schedule. And if there were a place for NASCAR to start that international expansion, it’s Mexico.

The Xfinity Series held races at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez from 2005 to 2008 and proved to be extremely popular, with the attendance for all races being strong. The race also allowed for some local drivers to have a shot at racing for the win.

Now 15 years later, the sport is once again in a position where a race at the track would be a hit. Mexico native Daniel Suarez is a contender in the Cup Series who would undoubtedly boost interest in the area.

Three of the four winners from the track’s Xfinity Series races are still full-time Cup Series drivers. Those drivers, Martin Truex Jr., Denny Hamlin, and Kyle Busch, are among the top drivers in the sport.

And on top of this, the NASCAR Mexico Series returned to the track in 2022, opening up the possibility for NASCAR to add races at the track.

There are plenty of venues to which NASCAR could turn to create the series’ first step outside of the United States. While Canada is another strong candidate, Mexico is likely the current favorite due to the ever-growing popularity of the series within the country.
