Drivers who can win both Indy races: No. 3 – Alex Palou

Alex Palou is quietly sitting in third place in the championship standings through the 2023 IndyCar season’s first four races. His consistent driving is bound to have him in victory lane sooner rather than later.

Palou finished in third place in the 2021 GMR Grand Prix and second in the Indy 500 two weeks later. He has been knocking on the door in the Indy 500 for a few years, with last year’s comeback drive from 30th place to ninth flying somewhat under the radar after an issue on his second pit stop knocked him out of contention.

That runner-up finish in 2021 and last year’s experience of jockeying for the lead with teammate Scott Dixon in the early stages of the race has given Palou an understanding of what a complete race in the Indy 500 is.

The Honda engines have seemingly been able to go longer on fuel stints this year than the Chevrolet engines. That fuel-saving advantage which could play a big role toward the end of the Indy 500.

Chip Ganassi Racing are usually on top of their Indy 500 strategies and position themselves well for wins. The fuel-saving advantage will only add to their chances at securing a second straight win, and Palou, the lone Chip Ganassi Racing driver without an Indy 500 win to his name thus far, can be that guy.
