Drivers who can win both Indy races: No. 4 – Scott McLaughlin

Winning three races in a row would be quite the feat, and that is what winning both races at Indianapolis Motor Speedway would mean for Scott McLaughlin, who won the most recent IndyCar race at Barber Motorsports Park last month. But if anyone can do it, it’s the driver of the No. 3 Team Penske Chevrolet.

The cool, calm, and collected Australian takes each race weekend in stride. His most recent three of four career IndyCar victories have come on road courses, but he has had success at every oval except for Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

While he has finished in the top three at every other oval on the schedule, his top finish in two Indy 500 starts is 20th place as a rookie in 2021. He crashed out of the race a year ago.

But we know that McLaughlin’s No. 3 Chevrolet is capable of getting him to victory lane anywhere, and the only other two drivers to win both Indianapolis races in the same year did it with Team Penske. Having added two podium finishes on ovals since his most recent Indy 500 start should help his confidence as well.

And of course, there is something about that Pennzoil yellow submarine livery that has been magical during the Indy 500 over the course of history.
