Possible Nyck de Vries replacements: No. 2 – Liam Lawson

Liam Lawson has greatly impressed in the junior levels and is on a steady upward trend in terms of his career outlook. It is undeniable the Kiwi has talent and seems poised to have a career in Formula 1.

Lawson has risen through the ranks rather quickly as a part of the Red Bull Junior Team since he joined in 2019. He made a breakthrough in his progress last season, as he made appearances in Formula 1 free practice for both AlphaTauri and Red Bull.

At the age of 21, Lawson has been impressing many after a third place finish in Formula 2 last season. He became the first person to win a race in his Super Formula debut this season. Many believe it is difficult to transition from the Formula circuit into Super Formula, but Lawson is making it look rather seamless.

As the current reserve driver for both Red Bull and AlphaTauri, the 21-year-old seems to be next in line for a vacancy in Formula 1.

With that, Lawson is also being backed by Helmut Marko as a genuine candidate to replace de Vries. We could very well see a mid-season switch; it would be nothing new to Red Bull, and Lawson also has some experience in an AlphaTauri car, so such a change would not be all that surprising.
