Possible Stefan Wilson Indy 500 replacements: No. 2 – Sage Karam

Just behind J.R. Hildebrand on the list of Indy 500 streaks slated to come to an end in 2023 is Sage Karam, a longtime Dreyer & Reinbold Racing driver who had competed in each of the last nine Indy 500s, including eight for Dreyer & Reinbold Racing, entering this year. He could not land a ride for the 107th running of the event.

The 2023 Indy 500 is set to mark the first time Karam hasn’t competed for Dreyer & Reinbold Racing in the event since 2015, as he had competed for the team in each of the last seven editions of the race.

He finished as high as seventh place in 2021, when he just managed to get into the field on Bump Day and started in 31st. That result bettered the ninth place effort he posted for the team from the same 31st starting position in his Indy 500 debut back in 2014.

Karam now competes part-time in the NASCAR Xfinity Series for Alpha Prime Racing behind the wheel of the No. 45 Chevrolet, but he is not slated to compete at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Memorial Day Weekend.

Could the 28-year-old Nazareth, Pennsylvania native get the chance to make his 10th straight Indy 500 start after all, in what would be his eighth straight start with Dreyer & Reinbold Racing?
