Possible Marcus Ericsson replacements for 2024: No. 4 – Callum Ilott

Callum Ilott signed a “long-term contract” with Juncos Hollinger Racing last season, his first full season with the team, but the exact terms of that contract were not disclosed.

Ilott is a driver whom Juncos Hollinger Racing have indicated they want to build around. But depending on what the driver/team options are in that contract, if any, perhaps his 2024 landing spot isn’t a sure thing.

Ilott was said to be high on Chip Ganassi Racing’s short list to replace Alex Palou last year before everything was sorted with Palou’s contract situation — and before Ilott signed this new deal to remain behind the wheel of the No. 77 Chevrolet.

The 24-year-old British driver has justified the high praise to start the 2023 season. He recorded a career-high fifth place finish in the season opener on the streets of St. Petersburg, Florida, and he recorded a career-high oval finish of ninth in the season’s second race at Texas Motor Speedway, making him one of only six drivers to finish both races inside the top 10.

It’s hard to see Ilott leaving his current team after the 2023 season, given that he appears to be very committed to the project, but as we’ve seen in the past, stranger things have happened. Even he has admitted that he isn’t sure what his future holds, which is an interesting admission for a driver who signed a “long-term” extension.
