Kevin Magnussen Formula 1 replacements: No. 2 – Yuki Tsunoda

As things currently stand, Yuki Tsunoda’s contract with AlphaTauri is set to expire at the end of the 2023 season. He does not have a full-time seat lined up for 2024, and his performance thus far this season has not truly warranted a contract renewal.

Some believe that Tsunoda has not met expectations after turning into the team’s lead driver upon the departure of Pierre Gasly. He has only three points to his name through 12 races in 2023.

But the 23-year-old could very well be Nico Hulkenberg’s teammate come pre-season testing in 2024, as he could still be exactly what Haas need to take that next step forward in the mid-field battle.

The Japanese driver loves to push his car to the limit, and his career started off with quite a lot of mistakes because of it — and a fit of resulting anger. However, his progression from season to season is rather promising and could fit quite well with the vision of Haas and Guenther Steiner.

If Tsunoda is able to widen the gap between himself and Kevin Magnussen in the standings to close out the 2023 season, it could give him plenty of hope for a full-time Haas seat in 2024. The pairing of Hulkenberg and Tsunoda could also have a similar impact to what we have seen with Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll at Aston Martin this year.
