Zane Smith 2024 NASCAR landing spots: No. 5 – Front Row Motorsports

Let’s not forget that Zane Smith hasn’t been kicked to the curb or released by his current team, nor has he spurned them or violated his contract by saying he will be driving elsewhere.

Front Row Motorsports simply know that he wants to make the move to the NASCAR Cup Series, and they know that they are unable to give him that opportunity for 2024. So despite having him under contract through 2026, they have given him permission to seek alternative options.

As a result, if he is unable to secure another seat elsewhere, there’s very little chance that Front Row Motorsports go back on their active contract and don’t at least allow Smith back with their Truck Series team for a third season.

Front Row Motorsports took a chance on Smith when nobody else wanted to during a 2021/2022 offseason when the latter, fresh off a second straight runner-up finish in the championship standings, made over 100 calls to teams about the possibility of a 2022 seat.

Front Row Motorsports were the only team to return any of his calls, and he rewarded them with four wins, seven other top three finishes, and a championship in year number one.

With two wins and six other top three finishes in 2023, he has put himself in a good position to defend his title. Perhaps his best bet is to stay put for one more year and then try again for a promotion in 2025.
