MBM Motorsports did not make any NASCAR Cup Series starts in 2023, marking the first season since 2016 in which they did not compete.

Back in early July, MBM Motorsports announced that they would be scaling back their NASCAR Xfinity Series operation and only running part-time, something which they had not done since joining the series in a full-time capacity back in 2015.

The Carl Long-owned team still made several appearances throughout the remainder of the 2023 season, but there were indeed a few weekends in which they did not field an entry — and, as had already been the case on a somewhat regular basis, a few weekends in which they failed to qualify.

However, in the announcement that they would be scaling back their Xfinity Series program, they added that they could look to return to the Cup Series. While they entered the year with no plans to compete at the sport’s top level, they made clear that their Cup car had been prepared but that they were still working on securing sponsorship.

MBM Motorsports had competed in the NASCAR Cup Series every year since 2017.

The team competed full-time in 2020 with Timmy Hill and planned to do so again in 2021 before scaling back after the first few races, but they still competed on a part-time basis throughout the rest of the season.

In 2022, they only made three appearances, and one was for the Daytona 500, when their two cars were unfortunately the two cars on the 42-car entry list which failed to qualify for the race. Hill and J.J. Yeley were the two drivers who tried but failed to qualify.

However, MBM Motorsports did not end up making any Cup Series appearances in 2023, ending their six-year streak of competing in the series in some capacity. There were rumblings of the team competing at Circuit of the Americas in March, but nothing came to fruition.

Their two most recent starts remain Boris Said’s 26th place effort at Circuit of the Americas in March 2022 and Yeley’s 25th place finish at Talladega Superspeedway in April 2022.

It remains to be seen what MBM Motorsports’ involvement in NASCAR will be for 2024. They have not confirmed any starts in the Xfinity Series or the Cup Series.
