Orange text (yellow could be hard to see) signals a caution, Red text signals a red flag, and black text will represent normal race updates during green flag racing, or cautions.
Lap 1: Green flag to start the race as Nelson Piquet Jr (Pole Sitter) and Michael McDowell lead the field to the green flag. Jacque Villenueve gets into Ron Fellows, no damage to Fellows’ car, unsure on Villenueve. No spin, no caution. Michael Annett & Ricky Stenhouse make a super early pit stop for strategy.
Lap 2: Sam Hornish pits early for fuel and to make sure he steers clear of the crazy traffic. He will have to serve a stop and go penalty for removing equipment on pit road.
Lap 3: McDowell takes the lead from Piquet Jr.
Lap 6: Ron Fellows takes the lead as McDowell and Piquet Jr hit pit road!
Lap 9: Brian Scott takes the lead. Ron Fellows surrenders the lead and is slow after cutting a tire in Turn 9 from wheel hopping. Danica Patrick is in the trails of Justin Allgaier and says she’s putting on pressure and he’s making mistakes.
Lap 12: CAUTION: TJ Bell runs off the track in turn 14. This is a huge break for Ron Fellows. Danica Patrick moves to second.
- Pit Stops: 7, 31, 26, 22, 30, 6 among many pitting this stop. Leader Brian Scott stays out. Allgaier making mistakes from Danica’s pressure loosens his water bottle and it wedged behind his pedals. Leader B. Scott pits late during the caution and gives the lead back to McDowell.
Lap 16: RESTART. Max Papis takes the lead from McDowell in turn 3!
Lap 17: CAUTION: Debris on the front stretch. Leader Max Papis will be pitting during this caution, as McDowell, Hornish, Sadler pit too among a few others.
Lap 19: RESTART: Miguel Paludo is your leader, Danica is second (heard a clump when she ran through the front stretch.) Some clouds to the west of Road America, but doesn’t look like it will be a factor. Rain tires are here.
Lap 21: Danica Patrick takes the lead from Miguel Paludo! Patrick overturns the turn and loses the lead again, falling back to 4th. Paludo takes the lead again, but pits giving Jacques Villeneuve the lead.
Lap 29: Villeneuve leads followed by the 30, 5, 7, and 54. Leader will pit in the next 3-4 laps.
Lap 30: CAUTION: The #75 car has left the course and hit the tire barriers hard. Break failure. Most of the leaders are pitting. Looks to be the top 12 cars in pit road. Out of the pits it is: 7, 22, 30, 54, 33, 11, 5, 18, 88, 2. Max Papis will have to serve a penalty after the gas can leaves the pit stall.
Lap 33: RESTART: Sam Hornish Jr. leads the field to the green flag followed by the: 31, 32, 7, 30. Michael McDowell spins Villenueve out in turn 5. Local caution only!
Lap 33: CAUTION: TJ Bell spins it out again in the carousel. Huge break for Villeneuve. Leaders that didn’t pit last caution take the advantage of the caution and pit.
Lap 35: RESTART: Nelson Piquet Jr leads the field to the restart followed by the 31, 18, 7, and 54.
Lap 37: CAUTION: Justin Allgaier wheel hops into Kurt Busch into the gravel. Heave damage on the 54 of Busch, Allgaier drilled the left front of the 54 after locking the breaks up. Kurt Busch will pit to fix the damage. The tow is knocked out of place on the 54.
Lap 39: RESTART: Piquet Jr leads. After him it is the 18, 5, 7, and 99. McDowell has a bad restart, Danica Patrick has a good restart, passed for 2nd position. Elliott Sadler gets dumped in turn 5 by Jacques Villenueves, and the bad luck returns to the One Main team. (Editors Note: NASCAR, please take away Villenueves NASCAR license. He does nothing but wreck people.)
Lap 41: Jason Bowles and Brad Sweet (seperate incidents) spins in the same turn. Bowles slaps the tires, Sweet spins it around.
Lap 43: Kennedy (sub for Nemechek) spins in Turn 7, local caution only!
Lap 48: Young’s #26 coasts to the run off after a problem. That keeps the race caution free. The race for 4th heats up as Papis is slowing Patrick, Villenueve, Hornish, and Scott.
Lap 50: Checkered flag! Nelson Piquet Jr. wins at Road America followed by 18, 5, 33, and the 12. Jacques Villenueve dumps Danica Patrick for 4th after Patrick on the final lap.
