HOT – Jeff Gordon

If Gordon had another five laps last weekend he might have won at Martinsville and punched his ticket into the championship race. Unfortunately he did not have five more laps and as a result he had to settle for a 2nd place finish. The result of that second place finish is that Gordon leads the point standings heading into Texas. Being the leader of the points doesn’t make Texas any less stressful though seeing as how Gordon only has a four-point lead over 5th place Denny Hamlin. Gordon ran well at Texas earlier this season when he finished 2nd to race winner Joey Logano. Gordon and the No. 24 team are obviously hoping to finish one spot better this weekend but I am sure that they will be happy with another top-five finish as well. Gordon is about to hit the second week of a three week span where the series runs at tracks he has had success on recently in his career. A strong finish this week will go a long way to secure his spot in the championship race which will be in two weeks at Homestead-Miami.
