Kasey Kahne

Kahne’s case is ironic because he was believed to be the driver with the most troubled future in regards to staying with the team. However, after signing a three-year extension with the team earlier this week Kahne’s future now seems to be the most solid.

Kahne will remain with the team at least through the 2018 season.

After the 2018 season Kahne will not have a contract and he will be 38 years old. Unless the next four seasons with HMS are disastrous it would seem that Kahne is primed to finish his career with this team. Success over the next four seasons will help ensure that Kahne retires with this team but ultimately it might not even come down to that. The circumstances surrounding the rest of the team come 2018 might dictate the fact that HMS will need to re-sign Kahne regardless. Then again, if Kahne is still underachieving  and the team isn’t winning championships he might be asked to move on.

2018 is a long ways away though and in all honesty doesn’t matter right now for Kahne and the No. 5 team. All that does matter for Kahne is that he is locked in with this team for the foreseeable future.
