NASCAR: Hendrick Motorsports Coming To A Crossroads

Dale Earnhardt Jr.
Earnhardt Jr. has already said that he doesn’t plan on ending his racing career with HMS. Earlier this season JR talked about running the last couple years of his career in the Xfinity Series racing for his own team, JR Motorsports. Earnhardt Jr. turned 40 this season and is currently signed through the 2017 season at which time he will be 43.
Earnhardt Jr. might be in the midst of his last contract with HMS.
Obviously drivers have run in this sport well past their mid-40’s but it doesn’t seem like that is what Earnhardt Jr. wants to do. By saying that he wants to run with his own team for a couple of years it shows that he is already looking past his Sprint Cup career and preparing for the next chapter. I can’t imagine that he would want to wait until his late-40’s to run the Xfinity Series, but I could be wrong. One also has to take into account his significant other Amy and how that could impact his decisions down the road. When it comes to Earnhardt Jr. it’s hard to see him racing with HMS after 2017.
