Bill Elliott isn’t just a winner, he is a  really fast winner.  Elliot set the speed record at Talladega Superspeedway on April 30th, 1987 in Talladega . He laid down an amazing 212.809 mph lap. Elliott is lucky as this record will likely never be bested as his speed record at Talladega was set before (and no doubt the reason for) the introduction of engine restrictor plates on NASCAR super speedways. The record was bested once by Rusty Wallace who did circle the 2.66 mile Superspeedway with a lap of 216.309 mph in 2004, however this was during a test in a car with no restrictor plate when restrictor plates were required by this time, thus that record is not counted.
