No. 3 – Junior Johnson

Johnson won 50 races in his NASCAR Sprint Cup Series career but was never able to win a championship as a driver. In fact, the closest that he ever got to a title was finishing 6th in the standings, something that he accomplished twice in his career. Johnson’s 50-career wins places him in a tie with Ned Jarrett for 11th all-time in the wins category.

Although Johnson never found that championship success as a driver, he certainly did find it as a car owner. As an owner Johnson won six NASCAR titles with drivers Cale Yarborough and Darrell Waltrip. Just like Fireball Roberts; Johnson was also a part of NASCAR’s 50 Greatest Drivers list that was released in 1998. Johnson might be the most accomplished NASCAR driver to not win a title thanks to his success later on in life as a car owner.
