NASCAR: Toyota Owners 400 Postponed Due To Weather
Peter Casey-USA TODAY Sports
UPDATE: NASCAR HAS POSTPONED THE TOYOTA OWNERS 400 UNTIL SUNDAY AT 1:00 PM ET ON FOX.
Last weekend in Bristol NASCAR went head-to-head with Mother Nature and won. This weekend in Richmond it looks as though Mother Nature is going to settle the score. Despite multiple red flags and hours worth of delays, NASCAR was able to run the full race last weekend in Bristol. This weekend in Richmond it will be surprising if NASCAR is even able to run a single lap.

Below is the current forecast for Richmond International Raceway as well as track and weather updates from throughout the day. Be sure to keep refreshing this page as the race gets closer for current weather news and the status of the race.
10:45 AM ET – According to the National Weather Service, the rain is expected to move into the RIR area around 2:00 PM. That rain is then expected to last until around 8:00 PM with it beginning to clear out shortly there after. The current radar shows a solid gap between 9:00 PM and 11:30 PM but that might not be enough for them to go racing tonight. Sunday forecast shows rain early with plenty of time to get the full race completed in mid to late afternoon or early evening.
11:21 AM ET – Rain is already starting to fall in the Richmond area.
11:30 AM ET – For those of you that might be wondering about the schedule tonight …
- 6:20 – Driver Intros
- 6:50 – Moment of Silence for Steve Byrnes
- 6:51 – National Anthem
- 6:58 – Command to start engines
- 7:05 – Green Flag
Those are of course if it isn’t raining which it most likely will be but it’s too early in the day to be pessimistic right now.
2:32 PM ET – Raining …..
3:54 PM ET – It’s looking more and more like the rain might stop around 8:30 PM. This gives almost a three hour window, but when you factor in how long it will take to dry the track things still aren’t looking good. It’s always possible they start tonight and finish tomorrow but if that’s the case why not just run it all tomorrow …
4:15 PM ET – Check out the ultimate ranking of the greatest NASCAR drivers and a video of the scary fire from Friday’s Xfinity Series race.
4:17 PM ET – Whenever we race it will be Jeb Burton in the No. 23 car not JJ Yeley, Yeley did qualify in the No. 23 on Friday though.
4:45 PM ET – NASCAR Race Day Live will be kicking off in about 15 minutes.
5:17 Pm ET – Competition Caution at Richmond planned for lap 50.
5:32 PM ET – That window in the rain might be opening up closer to 8:00 than 8:30. Still no word from NASCAR though.
6:01 PM ET – NASCAR has postponed the race. It will run Sunday at 1:00 PM ET on Fox
6:10 PM ET – Beyond The Flag will be back tomorrow afternoon to bring you live race updates from the Toyota Owners 400 which will run at 1:00 PM ET on Fox after being postponed Saturday night due to inclement weather.
6:21 PM ET – Rain tomorrow as well but it’s going to stop.
