Justin Wilson might not have been a NASCAR driver but he was still a part of the Motorsports family. Following the accident in Pocono on Sunday that left Wilson in a coma, the Motorsports world came together as one to stand behind Wilson and his family.
Drivers from IndyCar, NASCAR, Formula One and other series all took to social media to express their concern and well-wishes for Wilson using the #PrayersForJustin.
Racing is inherently a dangerous sport and that danger doesn’t change based on what series you’re racing in. NASCAR drivers know the danger is real in just the same way that IndyCar and F1 drivers know. It’s this understanding that allows for the Motorsports community to come together as one when something terrible like this happens to a driver.
Monday night, just over 24 hours after suffering a critical injury to his head, Wilson passed away. The passing of Wilson is another reminder of the real life consequences that are attached to competing each and every weekend for these drivers. Following the announcement of his passing the NASCAR Universe reacted via social media which can bee seen below.
So sad to hear that we lost Justin Wilson today. Thoughts & prayers to his family and friends.
