By now most of the NASCAR world knows what is expected to happen on Wednesday. If the rumors and reports are true, Tony Stewart will announce that he is retiring following the 2016 season and that Clint Bowyer is taking his place in the No. 14 machine for Stewart-Haas Racing.

Bowyer to SHR in 2017 after a pit stop in HScott Motorsports in 2016 is a great move for his career. Bowyer is departing a soon-to-be defunct MWR after this season and I am sure that brought with it some concern for the future. Bowyer will now enter a situation where he will be with  decent team in 2016 and then a championship-caliber team in 2017.

Although the move is looking good for Bowyer, one has to wonder if it was the best move for Stewart. Obviously you can only make the moves that are available to make and it’s quite plausible that Bowyer was the best move available. That being said, there are a handful of other drivers out there that could have been available after 2016 and would have been better fits with SHR than Bowyer is.
