3. Indianapolis, August 2005

Indianapolis Motor Speedway was the one track where Stewart felt he needed to win the most. He had won everywhere else, on short tracks, road courses, intermediate tracks, and superspeedways. He had won on some renowned venues, but always seemed to be snakebit at Indy.

Come 2005, Stewart’s already-magical year got better when he finally scored an emotional win at Indy. He started the day in 22nd, but his car was better than it looked, as he ended up leading 44 laps and triumphing over Kasey Kahne by .794 seconds. He would repeat as Indy winner in 2007.
