NASCAR: Five Reasons Why Talladega Will Be A Dud

Talladega.

Just the mention of the name conjures up a myriad of emotions ranging from sheer terror to heart-stopping excitement and everything in between. Some people want to put a bulldozer to the track and be done with it, while others would just as soon race there every weekend. There doesn’t seem to be anything in-between.

Twice each year, optimism abounds. Each driver has a 1-in-43 shot to win, and nobody’s shot to win is any more or less than that of any other driver. The powerful combination of speed, aerodynamics, being at the right place at the right time, having the right “friends” and avoiding the big wreck makes for some of the most exciting racing we see each season. The race is as mentally exhausting as it is physical, for both drivers and fans alike.

Why then, does Talladega become what many would call a “dud” of a race more times than not? Given here are five reasons why this race deserves that reputation, and why next weekend won’t be any different.
