Gordon’s 2015 has gone from being turbulent and full of blunders to being the feel-good story of the year. He’s heading into his last race as a Sprint Cup driver, closing the book on an epic career when he makes his final start at Homestead as one of the main threats for the Cup championship.

Although his win at Martinsville was no fluke, Gordon hasn’t had a strong season like his competitors in 2015. He’s struggled with speed, mostly, and more than once has crashed an otherwise fast race car. On one hand, it’s easy to say that the Chase played out in his favor by bringing on Martinsville, one of Gordon’s best tracks, when he needed it most.

Then again, this is the driver of the No. 24 being discussed. A team and drivers that has won everything, everywhere. He’s been good, and being in the hunt for the championship usually gives a good team and extra boost to be a great team. Homestead, despite giving Gordon a minimal amount of wins, has been good to him and could very well be even better to him come Sunday. He’s been picking up a little bit of strength heading into the season finale, rolling on a 10-race top-15 streak, with eight of those as top-10s.

However, that might not be good enough. If Gordon wants that championship he’s going to have to win it. He’s done it before, and he can do it again.
